On August 1, 2021, our daughter, Pamela Smart, began her 32nd year in prison. She has a sentence of life without the possibility of parole.
Pamela is housed in a maximum-security facility, hours, and a lifetime away from us, in Bedford Hills, NY at the women’s prison, where she is the longest serving woman prisoner in New York.
Pam is seeking a commutation of her sentence. She accepts responsibility and is deeply remorseful for about what happened to her husband, Gregg. The actual killers of Pamela’s husband, Gregg Smart, were released from prison years ago.
So far, her application for a sentence reduction has not been heard, but she continues to seek commutation from Governor Chris Sununu, the Executive Council, and the State Attorney General.
Prison is a hell on earth filled with hate, despair, and perpetual loss and indignity. We do not believe she should serve a sentence of life without the possibility of parole.
Pam entered prison as a 22-year-old girl and, now after three decades, she has become a very special woman, committed to helping others as well as helping herself. She has mentored many, many young women at Bedford Hills, helped educate women and educate herself. She has earned two master’s degrees and a PhD in Biblical Studies. She is a woman of ideas and strong faith.
Pam continues to hear from many who voice an interest in helping her cause, believe in her and are deeply troubled by the disparate sentences and treatment given to her in contrast to the three individuals who were directly involved in Gregg’s murder.
We will continue, as we have in the past, to inform and enlighten the public to Pam’s plight. With your help and through this site, we will work to seek Pamela’s commutation. On behalf of our daughter, our family thanks you for your prayers, kind words, and acts of support. We do appreciate these efforts so much.
Sincerely, John and Linda Wojas
